Robert, born in Montclair, NJ, and raised in Bloomfield, NJ, became interested in art at an early age. In his twenties, he started painting with a group of artists, meeting weekly for several years. The group members' artwork was regularly critiqued by the old master, Frederick Van Shaw.

In 1956, Robert moved to California and studied architecture for two years. In the 1970s, he began studying still-life with Charles Becker, a student of the late master Roberto Lupetti. Robert developed his own style though his years of painting landscapes and seascapes. He is best known for his unique approach to still-life and his exceptional method of bringing out the light. His paintings have put him in a class with the best in the field. The full vitality and freshness of his works is captured in perfect detail with rich color in each painting. The beauty of Robert's art, done in a contemporary mode, is reminiscent of the 17th century Dutch masters.

His artwork is displayed in homes from coast to coast, as well as in many private collections all over the country . He currently resides near the village of Mendocino on the north coast, roughly three hours north of San Francisco. He has designed and built his own home, art studio, and garden.
